Took the W201 to Wal mart for some printer ink go print my math homework, and damn! No start. Jumped it, still no start. Guy had to rev his engine for a few seconds. Finally started. Weirdly enough the battery has a 5/13 stamp on it and the alternator was newer from what I was told by my friend who also has a 190. Where to start?

Are you sure it's not an issue with the starter?

Did it continue running on its own after the jump? Then your alternator isn't likely the cause. Id bet you have a weak cell. Warranty the battery.

Well, welcome to the phantom battery issue club! I don't have too much info for you, since I haven't actually fixed my problem, but I assume you checked the basics, accessories that might be drawing power while the car is off, etc. Have you tried testing the battery with a multimeter or taking it to your nearest auto parts store to be tested? Even new batteries can have issues sometimes. Have you tried disconnecting the negative cable while the car is on to check that the alternator is working properly? Then, after all that, measure the draw from the battery while the car is off to see if anything is pulling a huge amount of power.

I doubt it, once it had enough juice it started nice and strong

Also, I know it sounds dumb but check your ground points. And all the battery to all connections for that matter. Even a little gunk or loose(ness? I can make up words...) Can add resistance to the system, causing intermittent issues or even a weird drain on the battery.

Replace your battery cables with the best ones you can find (not walmart universal). Then buy a battery with the highest CCA that will fit in your battery tray. Welcome to winter.
